The Coastlab18 will be held from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 26 May 2018 in the Magdalena Palace.

 

Santander is conveniently communicated with Europe and other important Spanish cities such us Madrid and Barcelona.

1) By Air

SANTANDER AIRPORT

The conference venue is only 7 km away from Santander airport. The main airline is RYANAIR that provides direct connections with Barcelona, Málaga and Tenerife Sur , as well as international connections to Brussels, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Edinburgh, London, Milan and Rome.

There are two more companies that fly to Santander: AIR NOSTRUM (Madrid and Lisbon) and VUELING (Barcelona, Alicante, Mallorca and Tenerife Sur).

*There is a shuttle service from Santander airport to Santander bus station which is located in the city centre at “Plaza de las Estaciones”.  This shuttle service leaves from the arrivals area of the terminal at 6.40 h. and then every 30 minutes from 7.00 h to 23.00 h. Tickets can only be purchased on the bus.

BILBAO AIRPORT

Bilbao international airport is only 100 km away from Santander and provides direct and regular connections to the major European cities. The airport is situated in Loiu (on the outskirts of Bilbao).

*There is a shuttle service from Bilbao airport to Bilbao bus station. This shuttle service leaves from the arrivals area of the terminal every 30 minutes at quarter past and quarter to from 6:15 h. to 23.15 h. Tickets can only be purchased on the bus.

From Bilbao bus station to Santander bus station, buses leave approximately every hour. A return ticket may vary from 12,54€ (“normal”) to 27,91€ (“supra”). Tickets have to be purchased at the ticket office. Website: https://www.alsa.es.

2) By Sea

The company Brittany Ferries operates ferries from Santander to Plymouth and Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. The Maritime Station is located in the city centre. Website: http://www.brittanyferries.es.

3) By Train

Santander main train station, RENFE, is located at “Plaza de las Estaciones” in the city centre. It offers daily ALVIA trains to Madrid.

FEVE Station. It is also located at “Plaza de las Estaciones”,  in the city centre and offers regional train services, as well as trains to Bilbao and Oviedo.

4) By Coach

Santander bus station. It is located at “Plaza de las Estaciones”  in the city centre. Santander is connected to several cities throughout Spain and Europe with the coach companies “Alsa Group” and “Bilmambus”.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN SANTANDER

  1. Municipal buses run throughout the city every 15 minutes. Buses number 1, 2, 4, 7, 13 run from the city hall (Ayuntamiento) to “El Sardinero” area stopping at “Plaza de Italia” and Piquio Gardens (Jardines de Piquío). Bus number 15 runs from RENFE train station to “El Sardinero” beach. Bus number 7 runs from the city centre or “El Sardinero” area to the Universities area.

Method of payment:

  • You can purchase individual tickets on the same bus (it costs 1,30€).
  • You can buy a rechargable bus card (it costs 1€) at any “kiosko” or tobacco shops. Minimum of charge 6€ and maximum 36€.
  • 2. Taxis offer a 24 hour service and it is always the quickest option in a medium size city as Santander is. There are taxis waiting outside the train and bus stations, and  on “Vargas” Street, “Paseo Pereda”, “Río de la Pila” or near the city hall (Ayuntamiento). You’ll find a city map with all taxi stops at the tourist information office. You can order a taxi by phone at (+34) 942 333 333 or (+34) 942 369 191.

*The average fare from the city center to “El Sardinero” is around 8€.  Additional charges apply if you travel on some public holidays or at night.

  1. Renting a bike:  There are 15 hiring points throughout the city to collect and deliver the bikes. Right there at the machine post, you will be able to buy the tickets. The options more suitable for you are:
  • Daily ticket: 1,52€
  • Weekly ticket: 7,11€

For both options, you will be requested to introduce your credit card and then a deposit of 150€ will be retained from it together with the daily or weekly fee (depending on what you have selected). The deposit will be refunded to you within a week after delivering the bike providing that it has not been returned damaged. For further information about the conditions of renting, please do not hesitate to ask at the tourist information offices.

  1. Renting a car: In the RENFE train station parking lot you will see AVIS car rental.
